“Love Hurts” by Lodro Rinzler: A book review

I picked up “Love Hurts: Buddhist Advice for the Heartbroken” by Lodro Rinzler for our office library sometime ago. Here is why I think it will be helpful to clients going through painful situations.

Most people who see us have been through a heartbreaking situation recently. The break up of a relationship or trouble with children makes life very hard! Unfortunately, these emotions carry into a legal case. When one or both parties is still reeling from a broken heart, this comes out in our discussions regarding settlement. These feelings sometimes cloud judgment. Any time spent on your own healing will be time well spent. It will help you make good decisions. It might help speed up your case. Most importantly,  you will be on the road to healing that will enhance your entire life.

What is cool about this book

This book is unique in that the author does not necessarily expect the reader to read it from start to finish. Instead, the author broke the book up into sections. Go to the section that feels most pressing to you. “”If you can’t believe this has happened to you.” If you can’t eat.” “If you feel like a failure.” Most sections are less than five pages long. It is very accessible, even for busy people or non-readers.

This book covers a wide variety of heartbreaks. The loss of romantic love is only one of them. Loss of a special pet. Loss of a dream home. Being estranged from a family member because of mental illness.

Yes, the author of the book is a Buddhist but one not need be Buddhist, or have any prior exposure to Buddhism, to appreciate the advice. In the end, truth is truth. The help offered from this book is very healing.
